“Love is the most secure place in an individual. It is very secure, very deep, very curative healing. It has no pain. It’s not limited.
The highest state of security of an individual is when a person is in the state of love. It is a consciousness which can penetrate through anything for that thing and nothing can penetrate it.” ~ Yogi Bhajan
Throughout the ages of time, we have asked the question ‘What is Love?’
In my journey of finding love, I learnt many things. I learnt that the feeling of being in love is so electrifying, ecstatic and exuberant that it bounces off you and elevates everyone around you, bringing hope, joy and light! It is so wonderfully healing, not only for the giver and the receiver but also for everyone coming in contact with the lovebirds.
My journey of love has also taught me that the loss of love is so incredibly painful that no words can come close enough to describe the sensations that I felt. The pain of heartache is so real and deep that our society has coined the term “break up”. I have come to understand that what this really refers to is the breaking down of the heart (the energetic heart center known as Anahata), like a glass shattering into little tiny pieces.
To protect myself, I remember closing myself off from the possibility of love and relationships for a long time because I was afraid of getting my heart broken again.
But the funny thing is, the act of closing myself off was also bringing me pain. So what is one to do?
My teacher once taught me that love and pain are two sides of the same coin. The more love you have, the more pain there is. The key to absolute love is to keep your love one step ahead of pain by dropping attachments, projections, judgements, expectations and control.
While at the same time to be mindful and wise enough to negotiate an earthly contract/agreement with your partner that lays down the foundations of how to make the love work in a committed long term partnership.
The real lesson that love offers you is the opportunity to break the heart open like a flower ready to give fruits rather than break down and close off.
